Advocating Breast Feeding

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

I am confident in my two babies. The first breast fed for 15 months and the other for 10 months. I am a firm supporter of breastfeeding and all that it promotes. If you are pregnant, your body is preparing a very special mixture of nutrients to meet the needs of your baby. Colostrum also known as milk is the ideal food before starting your baby. This yellow, creamy substance is found in the breasts during pregnancy and for a few days after birth. Colostrum takes care of all the nutritional needs of your baby from birth and offers significant protection against bacteria and viruses. Colostrum also stimulates your baby’s first peristalsis [meconium – Dark stool sticky because the baby is still in you). During the first days after the birth of your baby, the amount of milk that you will grow. Breast milk is composed of fats, sugars, proteins, minerals, vitamins, enzymes and is designed to promote the growth of brain and body. The antibodies are also present in the studies show that if you breastfeed your baby exclusively for the first 4-6 months of your doctor visits will be present and in the meantime, because it helps build immunity to your baby against infections. What I know first hand that I lived with my two babies. Medical problems that can be prevented through breast milk include but are not limited to: ear infections, diabetes, intestinal problems, and several food allergies. A colicky baby also gets relief breastfeedingBreast-regular diet also reduces the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or crib death. “Feeding your baby exclusively breast milk can give her brain and visual development momentum added. The activity of breastfeeding aid faster development of speech in infants who are not breastfed. My son breastfed until 15 months has begun to speak before his first birthday and he is so smart, sometimes I forget he is only 3 years. My daughter is also catching up fast despite the fact that I stopped breast feeding its 10 months. She is very strong and energetic at once, it tires me. They have also been proven studies that show that prolonged breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer among mothers and diabetic later in life. Are you religious? Try the breastfeeding and you too will become a champion.

Second Hand Smoking: Medical or Physiological Effects

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Secondhand smoke is a combination of smoke from a burning cigarette and smoke exhaled by the smoker. Secondhand smoke is also known as passive smoke or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). Mostly the term second hand smoke is used in opposition to ETS because the latter infers a relationship between tobacco smoke and the environment generally leads to confusion as to its exact meaning. The environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) can be easily recognized by its distinctive odor as it pollutes the air and keep it in clothing, curtains and furniture, etc. However, it is not limited to irritation; ETS represents a dangerous health hazard worldwide. Over 4,000 different chemicals have been identified in ETS, and around 50 of these substances are known carcinogens. Some of the chemicals commonly found in secondhand smoke include, but are not limited to: • benzopyrenes: These are also in the coal tar, one of the most potent chemical carcinogens. • Formaldehyde: It is normally used to preserve dead animals. • Hydrogen Cyanide: It is used in rat poison! • Ammonia: It is used to clean floors and toilets. Breathing secondhand smoke can be more dangerous than inhaling smoke from a cigarette. He has twice as much nicotine and tar than the smoke inhaled smoke people and five times more carbon monoxide, a deadly gas that starves the body of oxygen. harmful effects of passive smoking: People who do not smoke and are exposed to toxic chemicals in secondhand smoke on a regular basis, can suffer serious health problems and sometimes death. In the long term, people exposed to secondhand smoke have a higher risk of suffering from lung cancer, nasal sinus cancer, heart disease, stroke and respiratory problems, including increased coughing, wheezing, pneumonia, bronchitis and asthma. In fact, every time someone breathes in secondhand smoke, he / she consumes more than 100 harmful chemicals – carcinogens and toxins. People who live with someone who smokes and who are exposed to tobacco smoke on a regular basis are about 30 percent increased risk of developing lung cancer and heart disease. Even the blood vessels as little as 8-20 minutes of passive smoking can cause physical reactions linked to heart disease and stroke, such as increased heart rate, less oxygen to the heart, and constricted, which increases blood pressure and makes the heart work harder. Effects on children: Children are at even higher risk because their lungs are still at a stage of development and can be more easily damaged by secondhand smoke. Infants also inhale more amount of smoke because they breathe faster than adults. Babies who breathe secondhand smoke are more likely to die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), also known as crib death. More than three times as many children die of SIDS related to secondhand smoke as abuse or homicide. Effects of smoking on children is more than one adult. Children who are exposed to secondhand smoke have double the risk of bronchitis and pneumonia. Secondhand smoke can affect children’s behavior and their ability to understand and reason. Studies have shown that children who are regularly exposed to secondhand smoke score lower on tests in reading, mathematics, logic and reasoning skills. For children with asthma, exposure to even small amounts of secondhand smoke can trigger an asthma attack. Breathing secondhand smoke can increase the number of asthma attacks. Exposing children with asthma to secondhand smoke at home increases the number of emergency room visits and hospitalizations. Exposure to secondhand smoke can cause asthma in children without developing it.

Baby Nurseries – Create One That Nurtures and Protects

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

After waiting 9 months and long-lasting discomfort, back pain and unknown sleepless nights you’ve finally become a parent. Like all proud parents of new ones you want to make sure that your child is as comfortable in the outside world as it was in his mothers womb. You want to create (if you have not already created what it is) a nursery, which gives all your new little joy a combination of style, comfort and absolute safety of course. This article has some tips to help you in your quest to create the best nursery as you can. The first thing you think of the color of the corner of your new baby. Although they may not be sensitive to different colors first (they can not distinguish black and white), the color you choose will gradually become significant. Decide on colors that are easy and soothing pastel as peach, yellow, blue or green. These grades provide a relaxing atmosphere while breathing the comfort and style! Colors in the primary wheel reinvigorate your interest in the children’s environment. However, using too much at once can cause your child to become too excited. Instead of sleeping, your child can stay awake all night and you would not be at rest or deep! And not just because of eating habits of your baby awkward. This time, the colors are the culprit! Different textures and motifs should be included in your nursery. These changes to spark the interest of your child grows. Their sense of touch will be further enhanced when they encounter new textures from time to time! Although it is necessary to cover the bed with soft cushions to avoid the bumps, you can still add a touch of texture. Regarding the covers, the general rule is that babies should not be put to sleep under a blanket. . . unless they are at least a year. Even if a soft blanket offers plush added comfort during mealtimes, it could cause sudden death syndrome or SIDS infants and should be avoided inside the crib during sleep. Get rid of Blanky adorable even if she breaks your heart! As a last tip, make sure you choose a particular model that may eventually grow as your child grows. Yes, I am sure that Pooh Bear and Disney princesses are popular for your child now, but what will happen if it exceeds? Make sure the theme and the colors are flexible enough to adapt to future needs of your child. So think again before buying that huge creche Little Mermaid, if you can not pictures of your teenage daughter and enjoy moments beneath the sea in this thirteen years from now. Invest in a wall of color and design scheme of working for a boy or a girl also. You never know exactly what your child may be the next right (or was the first experience to you)? Keep decorations to a minimum without sacrificing your chosen theme. Do not overdo it so you will not have to open metamorphoses nursery whenever that is positive pregnancy tests! Because a nursery will be used for many years to make sure you plan well. You do not want to update it in 12 months, reaching a new look or touch. use textiles, textures and visual effects that will please any growing child. Many children have a living memory of their nursery, so why not ensure that these memories are as sweet and tender as possible? Create the perfect nursery releasing the creative child in you.
