SIDS
Product DescriptionSudden syndrome (SIDS) occurs in infants in the world, its cause is unknown. In the U.S., some 3,000 children die each year from SIDS. In the early nineties parents in the Western world have been urged to place babies on their backs to sleep. This public health measure has reduced the SIDS rate by nearly 50%, but SIDS among African American infants remained at high levels. Since 1972, the authors of this book have been involved in the care of newborns and SIDS research. This book reflects the current state of knowledge about SIDS: an integrated scientific, medical and psychological. It is written in plain language with little jargon as possible so that parents, child care staff, the coroner’s staff and health professionals may include health, medical, counseling and research issues brought together in a single volume. In addition, it contains practical information and resources that can be used by the reader. – From the back cover
