What a disservice to parents this book is. Starting with the title itself, Sears uses the printed word to parents mislead into believing that he has magically found the answer to a syndrome that has baffled experts more qualified than him. While Sears may be a credible source on issues, it is not clear when it comes to SIDS. Sears seems to use this book as the place to tout his own personal theories – most of which are about as far from being a scientific fact that you can get. Because it mixes well-known facts in SIDS, it seems he deliberately tries to confuse the reader into believing that his theories for pets are well accepted by the medical community and have withstood peer review. For example – he speculated that bed sharing with an infant reduces SIDS. This has been studied by experts legitimate and current, there is no scientific evidence to substantiate this allegation. In fact, the adult bed with pillows, duvets and pillow top mattresses pose an increased risk for infants. Babies can not and die alongside their parents, as they are in cribs. The tragedy of this book is that Sears, in his zeal selfish, misled into believing unsuspecting parents if they follow his advice, they can prevent SIDS following his * Philosophy parenting. As many attributes as “attachment parenting” may have, prevention of SIDS is not one of them. The greatest tragedy of all, however, is that this book is offered to parents mourning. Parents SIDS are well known to torture with “What Ifs” and junk science from Sears only adds to this information false and misleading. That in itself makes this publication a worthy of the stove wood. Rating: 1 / 5
Firstly, any person who uses the expression, SIDS prevention seeks neither to sell you something, or do not know what they are talking. You can not prevent SIDS. Second, Sears is a huge bed sharing lawyer. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has signed an 8-year study that strongly discourages bed sharing reduces SIDS. The American Academy of Pediactrics and U.S. Public Health Svc. endorses this study. Dr. Sears May know much about the connection with your baby, but please do not look at the info about SIDS. My daughter died of SIDS was in October ’99, and it is important to me that the correct information. gets distributed. See the website of the Alliance of SIDS for more information on SIDS. I still have not said why they say 99% of all deaths as SID baby! My daughter was sitting in his car seat, still had a heartbeat over an hour after she was found, but they say it is dead SIDS SIDS for me is a copout when they do not want take time to understand what is wrong with a baby! Can you giveme thing I can accept? I need to know how my daughter is dead! Rating: 3 / 5
Instead of sitting there doing nothing, Dr. Sears is encouraging parents to be proactive in preventing SIDS. At least if something happens, they know they have tried. Rating: 5 / 5
Starting with the title – there is no prevention for SIDS! No, no, no way. The first symptom of SIDS is death. I can assure you that if there was a program of prevention for SIDS, my little girl would still be with us. If you think I’m wrong, do your own research. SIDS is NOT caused by sleep apnea or choking. SIDS is not caused by external suffering, as by suffocation. It is not contagious, nor a result of illness or neglected child abuse. Nobody is to blame for the “BABY S DEATH. SIDS is not a disease, it can not be diagnosed with a live baby. Anyone who thinks they know a baby who has nearly died of SIDS “is incorrect. THERE IS NO “NEAR MISS” CASE SIDS. If a child has lived, he could not be from SIDS SIDS means death by definition. SIDS is not preventable – there are things that may be reducing risk, but the word does not stop now be used in combination with SIDS word. The babies died of SIDS when they were in someone’s arms and had IMMEDIATE CPR. Please understand that SIDS is the leading cause of death for children aged between one month and one year. How dare the author even begin to use the word prevention in relation to SIDS? SIDS is a tragedy as monstrous as people believe there is a way to prevent SIDS, they are lulled into a false sense of security thinking that it can not happen to their babies, and they include no need to do more research to find the cause of stopping this cruel thief children. October is Awareness Month SIDS – please ask about SIDS. Unfortunately, this is not possible with this book. Rating: 1 / 5
